Previous question paper of UPSC Engineering Services (Prelim) Exam, 2018

Engineering Services Examination is conducted annually for selection of officers for the engineering services that meet the technical and managerial functions in various fields of Engineering of the Government of India. The Government of India recruits its civil servants and officials on the basis of merit, and middle management positions in the bureaucracy are filled through competitive exams. Many candidates take these exams, competing for limited posts. IES officers are selected by the union government on the recommendations made by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). A combined three-stage competitive examination (comprising five tests), called the Engineering Services Examination (ESE), is conducted by the UPSC for recruitment to the Indian Engineering Services.

A nationwide competitive examination in India conducted by the UPSC for the civil services that meet technical and managerial functions of the Government of India.

It’s a four stage competitive examination conducted by UPSC known as Engineering Services Examination for recruitment to the different Indian Engineering Services.

Eligibility Criteria — 
Educational Qualification : A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (B.E. / B.Tech) from a recognised university or equivalent. M.Sc degree or its equivalent

Age: Minimum of 21 Yrs to Maximum of 30 Yrs on 1st August of the year of the Examination
Upper Age Relaxation:
• A maximum of three years for OBC candidates
• A maximum of five years for candidates belonging to a SC/ST candidates

Number of Attempts:
• Four attempts for General category candidates and OBC category candidates under the Creamy layer
• Seven attempts for OBC category candidates
• To SCs / STs, No limit on the number of attempts

Nationality:
• A candidate must be a citizen of India

Examination Process : Consists of four stages —
• Paper I (Objective type) : General Ability Test (Part A: General English) & (Part B: General Studies)
• Papers II & III (Objective type) :CE / ME / EE/ Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering
• Papers IV & V (Conventional type):CE / ME / EE/ Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering
• Interview : Personality Test
